Simple Ayurvedic Home Remedies to Control Blood Sugar Levels

By Kapiva Editorial

India is the Diabetes capital of the world. That statistic comes with its fair share of horror, bringing us to question the factors behind the rising graph. However, while our ulterior motive is to bring down the incidence of the disease in the country, in this blog, we shall talk about what you can do if you’ve already fallen prey to it. Simple Ayurvedic home remedies for Diabetes.

Ayurvedic Herbs For Diabetes Care

Ayurveda can have a major role to play in your life if you’re Diabetic. The inclusion of simple herbs in your daily routine can take you a long way in keeping Diabetes under control permanently.

Triphala and Turmeric

A traditional Ayurvedic combination of three fruits: Amalaki (Amla), Bibhitaki, and Haritaki – Triphala is a powerful antioxidant that is particularly effective in combating Type 2 Diabetes and is considered a potent blood sugar control food. The spice Turmeric exhibits instances of increasing insulin sensitivity that helps control blood sugar levels. Clinical trials on animals suggested that Turmeric behaves as an anti-hyperglycaemic agent.

Ayurvedic Dr Anand Dwivedi recommends mixing 50gm Triphala + 50gm Turmeric and consuming it twice a day – half teaspoon before lunch, half teaspoon before dinner.

If making a paste of the herbs seems a bit too much work, consider having a mix of  Triphala Juice &  Aloe + Turmeric Juice. Both the juices have the properties of the aforementioned herbs and act as blood sugar control food. To ensure that the Curcumin (Turmeric) percentage is high, add extra Turmeric to the concoction.

Bel Leaves, Neem Leaves, Tulsi Leaves

Neem, bel, and tulsi are considered the best sugar control foods.

Neem leaves are loaded with flavonoids and triterpenoids, which effectively keep a check on glucose level spikes.
Bel leaves counteract Diabetes by managing the secretion of sugar into the bloodstream.
In the case of Type 2 Diabetes, Tulsi leaves, with hypoglycemic properties, help control blood sugar.

Make a paste of the above readily-available herbs and consume this potent sugar control food twice a day.
If the juice form is better suited to your palate, consider adding the Neem Juice and Tulsi Giloy Juice to the paste of Bel leaves.

Fenugreek (Methi Dana)

As per a study published in the International Journal For Vitamin and Nutrition Research, it was found that a daily dose of Fenugreek seeds soaked in hot water helped in keeping Type-2 Diabetes under check.
Consume half teaspoon of soaked Methi Dana, an important sugar control food,  twice a day with water.

Apart from the above hacks, one of the most important home remedies for Diabetes is to keep stress and tension under check. Yes, stress leads to an increase in blood sugar levels. Practise Pranayam and Yogasana to keep the stress at bay. But don’t overdo any exercise – the intensity should always be in moderation.
