By Kapiva Editorial

Health issues come in various forms. Chronic diseases related to lifestyle choices are common in today’s fast-paced world. Diabetes, hypertension, cancer, etc. are some of the leading ailments affecting humans across race, gender and age. Other common health conditions include common cold, fever, issues related to immunity, respiratory issues, etc. Modern medicine is grappling with increasing cases and bloated costs. Natural and alternative medicine have now started to find some acceptance in addressing the root cause of these lifestyle chronic problems.

What Constitutes Common Health Problems?

Chronic conditions that build over time constitute a major portion of health issues that require long-term medical attention. Our lifestyle choices which include poor dietary intake, and a sedentary lifestyle, combined with deteriorating air and water quality are the primary reasons for these chronic ailments. Diseases like diabetes, cancer and cardiac conditions that once were rare and found amongst the “elite” few are now slowly creeping into middle and low-income households. Poor diet, toxins in the environment, stress and other factors are eroding our immunity leading to persistent colds, fever and other minor yet niggling ailments.

Ayurvedic Approach To Common Problems

While modern medicine views the body from a structural perspective, ayurveda bases its understanding of the human body on tridoshas (vata, pitta and kapha). Ayurveda believes that an imbalance in these doshas is the root cause of disease. Ayurvedic advocates a lifestyle that adheres to the natural rhythms and seasonal cycles to customise your diet, activities and daily routines. Ayurveda believes that different doshas are dominant during specific times of day and also change as per seasons. Understanding these cycles is critical to avoid everyday common health problems and also reduce the incidence of chronic ailments. Ayurveda emphasises eating regional and seasonal produce to avoid vitiation of the doshas. Following the dinacharya (daily routine), eating as per the dosha cycles, incorporating yoga in your daily life and reducing stress through meditation are the best ayurvedic remedies.
